It taught me speed and how to anticipate a moment in chaotic situations. It was a massive learning curve, but I eventually moved away from staged celebrations to find something real. I found my true direction in photojournalism. That is where I discovered the reality of life and the hard facts I was looking for. Now, as a Brazilian photographer, I apply that mindset to my documentary and street work. I shoot in black and white to focus on the subject. No scripts, no directing, just the raw facts of the scene as they happen.
